I made this piece based on a sketch from my sketch book. It was originally going to be filled with junk but I decided to use plasma cut offcuts for one side as I thought the complexity looked good. The curl suggested clockwork springs as in an old watch and this then suggested a dancer in the appropriate area. ( with a touch she does actually move). The title was in my subconscious and when I looked it up it was 12 volume series of books by Anthony Powell, inspired by a painting by Nicholas Poussin ( above) .I haven’t read any of the books but it is supposed to be one of the masterpieces of the 20th C. I do love how things just gradually develop and I was interested to see just what it was that my subconscious had stored and really, it is such a poetic title.This piece is on show in Sculpture in the Vineyards at Lucinda Winery Leongatha( 2014)
