I saw a piece of art with a wavy line and wondered what that would inspire in me. It eventually harked back to a lovely piece I had seen by Fred Williams where he had a quarter circle with a few trees on it as a hillside and I had always admired the simplicity of the form. As I made the piece I decided to add my girl sitting on one of the fallen trees enjoying the view out over farmland. This also had a suggestion of a painting by McCubbin( I think) called “Whelan on the log”. I thought a poem about a hillside would add to the effect and when I showed the design to a poet he came up with quite a strong environmental piece. My wife overhearing also came up with a poem of similar intensity. I love it all!
