I often forget forms as I wander down some track, I saw a lovely clay piece by Anita Sidler on Instagram and she had made segments of circles. I had not made segments as such for quite a while and it seemed like a fun way to use offcuts and come up with a simple but strong composition. Serendipity played a part and someone gave me some plough discs so one asked to be a part of the piece and then Belinda who comes and works here on Tuesday brought back her studded piece( which had been part of a tortoise) so that was recycled too. I was also cutting out birds for some other design and they called to act as joining members holding the segments together. To me it suggests a very industrial form of earth on the eve of falling apart and the birds are acting as heralds of our destruction.”
