When I was more of a woodworker I turned a few boxes and set in gumnuts in the lids. I was cutting up some smallish tube and I thought this would make a lovely hybrid of metal and redgum and one of the trees in the sculpture garden was producing lots of the tiny gumnuts. It took a bit longer than what I expected but T do like the contrasts.
