It seems we spend most of our lives surrounded by examples of animal headed people. I grew up with Bugs Bunny, Daffy and Donald duck and all their various friends. All of them had attitude too! The idea for the piece came to me almost immediately after we decided on the exhibition title and I didnt really know where it came from initially. As a student I was introduced to the gods of ancient Egypt and Anubis (Anubis is the Egyptian name for a jackal-headed god associated with mummification and the afterlife in Egyptian mythology.). I had also done a fair bit of reading and had been reading about early explorers who described dog headed people and others with their heads in the centre of their bodies. Anyway my dog headed boy comes from making these range of ideas into a more solid form. ( or maybe I am reliving a past life as an egyptian!)
