I went to an art talk in May 2011 called the Sex lectures where local artist Bec Van Dyk illustrated a Monash lecturer’s talk. One of the images was similar to this piece but a bit more symmetrical. I didn’t get that much out of the show but I did like this form so I have appropriated it for this piece. As it has something to do with reproduction I have included a little person in there too. The shape is just a touch more pill shaped on the outside than Bec’s and I feel this also refers to how we expect pills to do whatever we want in this manner. Certainly a pill is used to stop getting pregnant and we now have medical methods to help getting pregnant. In 2015 I added the heart as the big negative shape obviously wasn’t working. Also any creation needs a bit of love involved.
