We went to the Vienna exhibition at the National Gallery recently and there was a set of cutlery which had the form of a semi circular blades. I noted this away in my sketch book as a form to explore. I tried a number of possibilities and ended up with this. It is almost figurative but the ball is meant to suggest that it is forcing these two forms apart and the lines suggest the splitting asunder.( great word asunder) . It is also quite vertical unlike a lot of my other work and I am at present exploring ideas related to totem poles seen during our recent trip to Canada.
I also like the aspect of division in that it has the elements of a division sign ( if you take a bit of artistic licence) !This piece is currently on view at Jinks creek winery Tonimbuk.
