Last year I did 2 girl sculptures based on Seurat’s paintings. I was really happy with them and they eventually won a prize at a sculpture show and sold. I missed them and looked for similar ideas and found that Monet was inspired by Seurat also and did two paintings of girls and umbrellas..This is the first one and she is lovely( well according to me) .She does remind me of Mary Poppins hence the name. I plan to do a similar piece using his other painting as the inspiration. The broken concrete of the dress gives a wonderfully pointillist effect so I am to a degree “swimming” with the flow of art history.
