River is a comment on the �brown� nature of many rivers in the world and the pollution that is part of their being. The surface hides lots of junk and many rivers are relatively devoid of life. I was impressed with the Yangtse River on our visit to China and the comment that it was so polluted that it was too dangerous for divers in costume to enter it. I feel there are aspects of some of our rivers which have similar problems but I hope we are working to improve them. Certainly when I think of many watercourses near where I grew up there is a visible improvement.
