I was given the base piece by a friend and initially I was going to use it as the base for a big sculpture. The form was too attractive although it was cast so I would have to work around that. Eventually I decided to make a junk topped table and although I have made something similar in the past it has not been as compacted as this piece. It has lots of charm and I eventually solved how to incorporate the cast  metal with normal steel.
