I was looking at some paintings or prints done by Ethyl Spowers and they had such liveliness that I decided to do one form myself. In fitting it to the piece of offcut I had I had to lift the arm and squash it in a bit and it took on the form of a bowler( probably more cricket than 10 pin). It seemed enough and with a bit of tidying up this piece came into being
