I had made a helicopter out of u-bolts and considered giving it the name of a whirlybird after the old television program I used to watch as a kid. This got me thinking of making a bird a whirlybird. I know some birds can hover beautifully and I have watched hawks sit in the air watching prey. Anyway, the idea kept appealing so with the aid of some of the bird pieces I had around and a seat spring the whirlybird you see in front of you developed.
