History: Noojee was part of the Wurundjeri tribes land prior to White settlement. "Noojee" is an Aboriginal word meaning "valley of or place of rest" Although it was not officially founded until the early 1900's, the small township of Noojee began as a gold prospecting site in the early 1860's. It wasn't until a massive flood between 1902-05 which changed the flow of the river that runs through town and caused the swampy marshes to drain, that the town officially founded and permanent buildings began to be built. Noojee became a major timber town when the railway connected the town to Warragul in 1919 .1926 saw fire devastate the town and stop all timber export from Noojee. All of the mills in the surrounding area were destroyed and the majority of the buildings. !939 saw another fire cause similar damage.

Visit the Noojee Trestle Bridge Surrounded by tall forest, follow the old railway line from Noojee to one of the only remaining historic timber trestle bridges in Victoria. Originally built in 1919 as part of a railway used to freight timber out of the district, this huge bridge has been restored and is the highest example of its type in Victoria.

Wonder at Victoria’s largest tree. Walk through rainforest to the Ada Tree, a giant mountain ash that's one of Victoria's largest trees. Around 270 years old, it's about 76 metres tall with a circumference of 15 metres.

. Toorongo and Amphitheatre Falls. Follow a pleasant 3km circular track through the Toorongo Falls Reserve that take you to the spectacular viewing platforms for these waterfalls. The mountain ash forest is towering and lush, the falls are gushing. Observing cool mountain water cascading is an awe inspiring sight.

Lunch at The Toolshed Bar an Iconic Aussie Pub Famous for its corrugated iron bar, massive open fire place and surrounding beer gardens, you could spend hours examining the paraphernalia hanging from the walls, an amazing tribute to the history of Noojee. Try to photograph the view of the valley from the rest area on the road to Warragul. A spectacular vista awaits a short drive out of town.

Brave the cold and have a paddle. The La Trobe River flows through the town centre and is flanked by large expanses of shaded grassy parkland. At the northern end of Bennett Street is a river front park which has BBQ and picnic shelters, a playground and a small sandy swimming beach at a bend in the river.
